+ 7 Days Prior: Spanish Placement Testing

7 Days Prior to Orientation: Spanish Placement Testing Opens

  • All Newberry College students are required to take a Spanish class as part of the requirements to graduate with a degree from Newberry College - unless you are a native Spanish speaker.
  • If you’ve taken Spanish in high school, the Spanish Placement Test determines if you can take a higher-level course or test out of the requirement. If you don’t take the test, you’ll be placed in an entry-level class.
  • The test is timed with no retakes, so review the instructions carefully before starting.
  • How to access the test:
    1. Go to the Academics tab on Wolf Den. Click here to go directly.
    2. On that tab, you will see “All My Courses.” Under “All My Courses,” click on SPA 099 SPA_AY25-26.
    3. Scroll down and click on Spanish Placement.
    4. Scroll to the middle of your screen and click on START SPANISH PLACEMENT (highlighted in blue).
    5. When you complete the test, be sure to click SUBMIT.
  • Test Window: The test opens 7 days before Orientation and closes 24 hours before your session begins. Make sure you complete it on time!

Students with proficiency in German, French, Japanese, or Latin may earn 6-12 hours of college credit through the CLEP exam. See the Newberry College Catalog for details on required scores.

  • German and French placement paper exams are available. Students need to make an appointment prior to WNW. These exams are in-person and administered in the morning of WNW.
  • If you have any questions regarding the Spanish Placement Test, please contact Professor Gregory Cole at Gregory.Cole@newberry.edu or call (803) 321-5244.
